Our London, drawn outward from the garden squares

Every district in this index lies within a short drive of Eaton Square. Each gets its own spread, listing the hotels a chauffeur would name, the closest stations with the minutes they take on foot, and the women who live nearest.

Her journey anywhere inside fare Zones 1 and 2 comes within the fee, so an evening in Westminster costs just what an evening in Belgravia does.

The squares and their neighbours

Belgravia is where the edit feels most at home, among Cubitt's stucco terraces and the grand hotels on its edges. Across Sloane Street lies Knightsbridge, all department stores and park-side hotels, and between the two runs Sloane Street itself, a mile of boutiques that turns easily into supper.

Down to the river and the Palace

East and south, the mood shifts. Victoria is for arrivals, the Gatwick Express drawing in beside the Royal Mews. Westminster belongs to the evening after a working day, with the river at the end of every street. Pimlico is quieter, a grid of white terraces made for supper at home, and Chelsea Bridge carries you over the water towards Battersea Power Station.

West, along the park and the King's Road

Sloane Square opens the King's Road, with the Royal Court on one side and Peter Jones on the other, while Hyde Park gathers the hotels that look out over the grass, from Park Lane round to Lancaster Gate. To see the whole postcode at a glance, the SW1 page links every district above from a single spread.

When your address is not in the index

The index is a guide, not a boundary. Rosie arranges evenings across London, from Marylebone to the City, and nowhere inside Zones 1 and 2 adds a penny for travel. Further out, she prices the return taxi before anything is agreed, and hotels at Heathrow or Gatwick begin at three hours, the drive included. The rates give every length.
