Portraits: twelve ways into the edit, each one resting on plain fact
Some evenings begin with a name, and some with a picture you cannot quite put into words: a sweep of honey blonde at the far end of the Blue Bar, a companion tall enough to meet your eye across an Eaton Square drawing room, a woman past thirty who guides a dinner so lightly that nobody notices her doing it. The portrait sets exist for the second kind of evening. Each gathers only the plates that genuinely share one detail, and nothing else decides who hangs there.
Those details come from the notes Rosie keeps after meeting every woman in person: her colouring as she wears it now, her height in centimetres, her build and her age. They are the same facts printed on each plate in the Faces, simply rearranged. Every woman in every set is an adult of 18 or over.

Silhouette, in the words of a good introduction
The five silhouette sets describe a frame the way you might describe a friend before a dinner party, warmly and with no tape measure in sight. Petite is neat and fine boned. Statuesque gathers every plate from 172 cm upward, the tallest at 178. Curvaceous is a classic, generous line, slim and slender is the set a tailor would choose to dress first, and toned and athletic belongs to the women already out on a court, a saddle or a barre before SW1 has opened its shutters.
Colouring, from honey to ink
Four blondes run from honey through caramel to gold. Fifteen brunettes make the widest set, sandy balayage at one end and a brown so deep it passes for black at the other. Six women wear raven hair, long and mostly straight, and three share the rarest colouring here, auburn and red.
Age, read as a chapter rather than a number
The three age sets say more about manner than about birthdays. Early twenties holds ten women with crowded diaries and a question for everything. Late twenties, the largest band, is where a pastime has usually become a real expertise. Thirties and beyond is four women with the kind of ease that makes a crowded room feel smaller.
