Patricia, as Rosie knows her
White stucco, black railings, plane trees just turning: Patricia still stops to look at the terraces of Belgravia on her way home, as though seeing them for the first time. There is something unhurried and romantic about her. Slim and 172 cm tall, she has long hair of a deep auburn brown and eyes of a gentle brown, and she dresses in soft bohemian layers, a floral wrap dress with a linen shirt thrown over it on cooler evenings and, more often than not, a trace of paint on one cuff.
Gentleness is her signature. Now in her late twenties, she remembers, weeks later, how you take your tea and which story made you laugh, and her English is soft and thoughtful. Watercolour painting is a daily practice, small studies of garden squares and rooftops. Film noir is the guilty pleasure, the darker and more tangled the plot the better. And she cannot pass a secondhand bookshop without going in, which makes walks with her pleasantly slow.
Her Belgravia evening begins at The Goring on Beeston Place, where the lounge looks onto the hotel's private garden and the whole place feels like a grand family house. She likes tea in a proper pot, or something cold in a coupe, as the light fades, sketching the garden in quick strokes while you talk, before wandering the quiet streets towards Eaton Square.
