Milena, as Rosie knows her
Sloane Street might have been laid out with Milena in mind. She stands 175 cm, curvy and unhurried, with black hair that falls long and glossy-straight and dark brown eyes that miss nothing. Her glamour is the high-shine editorial kind: lacquered heels, a sculpted blazer, a lip in deep berry. She walks past the boutique windows without a sideways glance, because she already knows what is inside.
Fierce is a word she enjoys, and she earns it. In her mid twenties, Milena is glamorous and wonderfully direct, and her crisp English says exactly what she thinks, which people find bracing at first and then rather addictive. She plays tennis hard, throws pots in a ceramics studio on her days off, and takes espresso as seriously as anyone in London. A softer side is kept for people who make her laugh, and she laughs more readily than her poise suggests.
Her favourite place to open an evening is the Chinoiserie lounge at the Carlton Tower on Cadogan Place, a few steps off Sloane Street, where she can watch the room from a deep armchair with a drink in hand. She sizes up everyone within seconds, shares her verdict in a whisper, and is right far more often than is fair. Dinner afterwards is wherever you like, provided the coffee at the end is strong.

How Milena likes an evening to go
An evening with Milena is decisive from the first minute. She arrives exactly when she said she would, takes one look at the bar and chooses the better table, and orders for both of you if you hesitate. Then the pace changes. Over a glass of something cold she becomes curious and surprisingly funny, asking direct questions and answering yours with the same candour. She might talk about a match she won in three sets, or a vase that collapsed on the wheel at the last moment. Dinner is glamorous but never stuffy, and she always finishes with an espresso, black, no sugar. Walking back along Sloane Street she slows down at last, takes your arm and admits she was a little nervous before you met.
