Cindy, as Rosie knows her
Cindy often arrives with a trace of salt still in her hair, which on a summer Monday is no exaggeration. The waves are long and blonde, the eyes a clear blue, the tan light, and the frame slim and supple at 168 cm thanks to yoga on most mornings: the effect is fresh rather than polished, and she likes it that way. White linen until the weather forbids it, soft cashmere afterwards, and only one accessory with any weight, an old film camera on a leather strap.
Cheerful without being loud and sporty without ever quoting a personal best, she is in her mid twenties and wonderfully easygoing. Her English is quick and friendly, and her questions are genuinely about you. Sailing is the great love, weekends crewing on the south coast whenever a friend has a spare berth. Photography is how she keeps the memories: harbours, coiled ropes, the faces of strangers who said yes. A missed train or a changed plan simply becomes a small adventure in her company.
Her Chelsea afternoons often start among the photography rooms of the Saatchi Gallery, a few steps from Sloane Square, with a running commentary on composition that is far funnier than it sounds. A relaxed early supper follows nearby, and the short hop into Belgravia afterwards means not a single minute of the evening is lost to traffic.

Cindy likes an afternoon that rolls gently into evening, which makes three hours at £1,050 her favourite shape. A cab from Chelsea to Belgravia takes less time than choosing the wine, and inside Zones 1 and 2 nothing is added for it.
How Cindy likes an evening to go
The best version of an evening with Cindy begins outdoors. She will suggest meeting at the edge of Ranelagh Gardens, behind the Royal Hospital, while there is still warmth in the grass, with the camera round her neck and one frame left on the roll. You might wander down to the river to watch the lights on Chelsea Bridge come on one by one, then turn back towards Sloane Square for supper. She orders fish whenever it is on the menu, tells the story of a crossing to the Isle of Wight that went gloriously wrong, and wants to know where you would sail with a free month and a borrowed boat. Back in SW1 the camera goes into her bag and stays there, and the rest of the night is easy, unhurried and entirely in the present.
