Jasmin, as Rosie knows her
'What are you wearing? The scent, I mean, not the shirt.' It is often the first thing Jasmin asks, and the question is a fair summary of her. She is curious, direct in the nicest possible way, and blessed with a nose that can pick out vetiver across a crowded bar. Everything about her is small and quick: 160 cm and petite, chestnut hair that falls long and dead straight, warm brown eyes that start laughing a moment before she does. She dresses in the playful, polished manner of a good boutique hotel, a slip dress under a cropped jacket and heels made for dancing.
Bubbly company and a gentle flirt, she can turn a table of strangers into friends before the bread arrives. Jasmin is in her early twenties and speaks English with bright, rapid enthusiasm, usually with her hands as well. Salsa is her weekly habit, and given a thick carpet and a willing partner she will demonstrate the first three steps between the lifts. She also mixes a formidable cocktail and holds views on bitters that she delivers with total conviction.
Her ideal Knightsbridge afternoon starts at the Salon de Parfums on the sixth floor of Harrods, where she tests scents on paper strips and then on your wrist, giving each one a short and slightly scandalous character reference. By early evening she wants a drink somewhere with a proper bartender, the kind who will make something off the menu if asked nicely. What happens after that is for the two of you to decide.
Jasmin is Soho based and crosses to Knightsbridge and the rest of SW1 in minutes. The hour begins at £400; mention your hotel when you message Rosie through booking.
In brief
Off duty: salsa, perfume, cocktails
Stands 160 cm, petite
Hair chestnut brown, long and dead straight; eyes brown
In her early twenties
Home: Soho
Jasmin comes alive in the early evening. For the perfume floor and a drink afterwards, ninety minutes at £600 is just enough; two hours at £750 lets the night wander wherever it likes.
How Jasmin likes an evening to go
An evening with Jasmin rarely follows a plan, which is exactly its charm. It might open with a scent: she arrives carrying a tiny vial from the perfume floor, dabs it on the inside of your wrist and asks what it reminds you of. It might continue at a hotel bar where she persuades the bartender to try her own recipe, something with pink grapefruit and a pinch of salt, and insists you taste it before she does. Somewhere in the second hour salsa comes up, and there is a short and extremely funny lesson beside the lifts. Supper is optional; conversation is not. When she finally leaves, you will know her three favourite perfumes, her least favourite gin and at least one secret about the late bars of Soho.
Asked and answered, by Jasmin
3 questions guests often put to Jasmin before a first evening.
Not every time, but often enough to be annoying. Rose and oud are easy. The clever modern ones take me a little longer.
Grapefruit, a good gin, a pinch of salt and something bitter. I call it a Tuesday, because that is the night I invented it.
If the carpet is thick and you promise not to stare at your feet, yes. Three steps, one turn and a great deal of laughing.
