Brunettes: fifteen women on one colour chart, read from sand to the edge of black
Brown is the colouring most of the edit shares, so this is the largest of the portrait sets and the one that rewards a slower look. Laid out together, the fifteen plates run like a decorator's colour chart: sand at the pale end, then chestnut, chocolate and espresso, a long run of deep browns, and finally one shade so dark it very nearly reads as black.

The pale end: sand and sunlight
Vanessa wears a sandy brown with a soft balayage, hazel eyes and a slim 173 cm frame, and hoards the words other languages have that English somehow lacks. Laura, green eyed and athletic, has a light brown streaked paler by summers in the saddle and winters on skis. Bianka, curvy at 165 cm, has hazel eyes and ends lifted by the sun, a vintage coat for every season and real patience with a long wine list.
Chestnut, poured straight or curled
Two chestnut brunettes wear it long and perfectly straight: Jasmin, petite at 160 cm, who dances salsa and identifies a perfume at twenty paces, and Liana, slim and composed, with a translated novel never far from her hand. Rosa wears the same chestnut in wild curls and brings a crate of vinyl and a serious baker's opinions to the conversation.
Chocolate and espresso
Tiffany has glossy chocolate brown hair, a petite build carried at 169 cm and a street photographer's instinct for the detail everyone else walks past. Tina, at 158 cm the shortest plate in the entire edit, wears espresso brown past her shoulders, sews many of her own clothes and saves her old jazz records for the end of the night.
The long run of deep brown
Six women share a deep brown, and texture tells them apart. Lucy wears hers in long curls and watches the night sky from the river in Pimlico; Molly has loose, generous waves and a soft spot for classic cars and house music. The other four keep it straight: Margo, sleek and softly spoken, drawn to contemporary art and the piano; Michelle, 173 cm and curvy, a sailor who mixes a drink to suit the hour; Samanta, 174 cm, with a violinist's poise; and Sonya, hazel eyed, who has never lost a dancer's carriage.
Nearly black
At the far end of the chart stands Stacy, 176 cm and slim, whose near-black brown looks raven under hotel lamps and only shows its warmth by daylight. She snowboards each winter, takes her camera out for street photography most days and knows the small comedy rooms of London better than most.
Narrowing fifteen to one
With a set this wide, most guests narrow it by a second detail. The smallest frames reappear under petite, the tallest under statuesque, and those with a generous line under curvaceous.
